There's a fire in Anaheim Hills. That's about 20 minutes (15 miles) away from my apartment via the freeway. I had to go to Physics lab today (since Tuesday was a holiday, ugh) and I saw a smoke/ash cloud on the northern horizon. Less than two hours later on my way back home, the ash cloud had moved significantly closer and seemed to be looming over Irvine. We shut all the windows and doors to avoid a smoky apartment just in case the smoke managed to come all the way over here, but fortunately that hasn't happened.
The fire would have to burn down Anaheim, Santa Ana, and most of Irvine to get to us, so we're safe. It's still kind of scary, though, to see the huge cloud of smoke and ash in the sky. I can't imagine what it's like over there for the people going through this, losing everything. That has to be so hard.
It's nearly dark now. I hope the winds don't pick up tonight and make the fire worse.
Edit: Ugh. People are looting houses that are about to burn down. I can't believe this. Some people, eh?
