Once again, sorry for the huge MIA. (wow, of the 8 months so far this year, I've missed about 7 of them. bad!)

The two weeks after my last post were pretty hectic. Here's a rundown of the highlights:
  • Dan got his official offer from Stanford.
  • Tuesday, June 15th: I put in my two-weeks' notice of resignation at work.
  • Dan worked crazy hours to finish up his project by the end of June. That left me to pack the majority of the apartment alone between my own paltry work shifts.
  • Wednesday, June 16th: I saw Gabe again. Tons of fun just hanging out with him. Late to work by 30 minutes (every swing I'd worked up until then had started at 5pm. This one? 4pm. wtf)
  • Friday, June 18th: Went to Santa Barbara to drop off camping stuff with my parents (who were there to move Nick home for the summer), saw my family for a few enjoyable hours and didn't want to go back to Huntington Beach. I ended up texting my boss that night claiming I'd gotten food poisoning while with my family so I could get Saturday off so I could go to the California Wolf Center. It worked.
  • Saturday, June 19th: Dan and I made a day of it and went to a farmer's market in Irvine before heading down to San Diego to see the wolves. We were separated from them by only a chainlink fence. I could have reached out and touched them a couple times. The fence ruined my pictures, but the experience was surreal.

  • Saturday, June 19th: Griffith Observatory in LA. We went to see the sunset over the city. We caught a show at the planetarium and took a ton of photos of the city lights from the observatory. This is also the night I really realized that I needed a tripod for my camera.
  • Saturday, June 19th: After Griffith, we went up to Dan's parents' house for Father's Day.
  • Friday, June 25th: Last day of work at doggy daycare forever!
  • Saturday, June 26th: Mom, Dad, Nick and Matt arrived to help me move. We went out for dinner at Macaroni Grille -- a perfect end for my stay at that apartment, since Mom and Dad took me and Dan, along with Seth and Luisa, out to Macaroni Grill after we moved in. Nice symmetry, there.
  • Sunday, June 27th: Moving day part 1. Last minute packing and loading of the truck. Nick and Dad ended up doing a lot of work. (Thanks!) They left with the truck and took Sunny so I wouldn't have to worry about her with the move out inspection.
  • Monday, June 28th: Dan's last day of jiu jitsu at UCI, which he dubbed "Ninja Day" -- he and several others dressed up as ninjas and attacked their sensei Joe. It was quite hilarious.
  • Tuesday, June 29th: Moving day part 2. Move-out inspection. Driving roughly 5 hours home. Set up bedroom at parents' house. Mom and Geena unloaded the truck before we got home -- thanks!
  • Thursday, July 1st: Dan's first day of work at Stanford!
Since then, I've seen friends, gone to Tanya's birthday party, had Kelly's half-birthday-ish party (her real birthday is close to Christmas so she gets jipped(?) shorted every year), gone on a 11-day trip with the family to camp in Northern California and visit family in Washington, had too much to drink 4 times in less than two weeks, almost tried pot, learned how to make berry daiquiris, and had my 23rd birthday. I also completely randomly got a very part-time job tutoring English for Chinese kids 8 hours a week and hammered out a plan of action for the next 10 years (mostly only the next 2, but still) or so. Fun times.

I think it's generally spelled "gypped", but that's not really a nice phrase to use since it has connotations toward the Romani people/gypsies.

Aww, tutoring kids sounds like a great job.

I kind of thought that (the spelling) and suspected it had something to do with gypsies. Is there a better word/phrase to use? Not "ripped off" or "cheated," because I don't feel like that fits. She just doesn't tend have the same, uh, amount? of birthday that the rest of us usually get because she was born so close to Christmas.

Yeah I thought so too. But these kids? Are brats. They like to ignore me and flat-out refuse to do what I ask of them. I thought Chinese kids were supposed to be well behaved? That's been my experience before this week, anyway.

"Shorted" works well.

That is rather apt. Thank you.

Hey, could you print two of the applications here and start filling them out for Sunny and Shadow?

Which application did you want printed out? The questionnaire for the intake appointment?

Printed yesterday, not filled out yet.

*gyped as it comes from the idea that gypsies will steal you for everything you got, and as such, probs not the best thing to say.

It has been a crazy summer indeed. More for you, of course-- I think our fall will be hectic enough. But yay for drinking, and almost having pot, and tons of vacations. And you and I will need to hang out these next to months.

Oh! Want to check out that one pub some night before I move?

Yeah.... it's the word I hear most for that kind of thing so it popped into my head and got posted before I fully realized that it might not be an okay thing to say. Finding better words now.

Yes! Wait, which pub?

You remember that one we went to with Dan that one night? Where we had lots of fun? That one.

Also, can I express how much I hate moving?

Oh yeah, that one! There's another on in SF that I want to try out - It's called the Albatross and it has board games. Seriously, booze and board games? That has "Teh Win!" written all over it.
