nohaniiYou know how sometimes people on your friendslist post about stuff going on in their life, and all of a sudden you think "Wait a minute? Since when were they working THERE? Since when were they dating HIM/HER? Since when???" And then you wonder how you could have missed all that seemingly pretty standard information, but somehow you feel too ashamed to ask for clarification because it seems like info you should already know? It happens to all of us sometimes.
1. First name:
Catherine. I was almost named Talia after the nurse who delivered me (the ob-gyn was on vacation), but my parents decided against it. Too bad, Talia is a pretty name.
2. Age:
22, as of August.
3. Location:
Huntington Beach, CA. I'm less than a ten minute walk to the beach, so that's pretty neat, but I don't know anyone here, so it's a bit lonely.
4. Occupation:
Currently, nothing. I've been unemployed since late July, just a few weeks after graduation.
5. Partner:
Dan and I have been together since November 28th, 2005. We just had our 4th anniversary on Saturday. We saw each other the first night in the dorms during an ice breaker -- our eyes locked across the room. Instant attraction. We met the next day. I was wondering around the next day, looking for something to do, when I saw Sam (guy I'd met the night before)r, I went over to visit. Turned out, Dan was Sam's roommate. He lived right next door to me, literally on the other side of the wall.
6. Kids:
None. Maybe someday, but not for a long while. I used to really want kids, but I'm not so sure about it now -- being pregnant and giving birth -- either way -- sounds awful.
7. Brothers/Sisters:
I have two younger brothers (Matthew, 15, sophomore in high school, and Nick, 20, junior at UCSB), an older sister (Kelly, 23) and an older half-sister (Cindy, 33? 35?, amazingly screwed up), which makes me the middle child.
8. Pets:
I kind of have two kitties. Jewel is my calico. She used to like at a pool that I lifeguarded at, but I rescued her. I swear, the first five days I had her home, she purred non-stop. My "other" cat is Sunny, a tiny little seal-point Himalayan type long hair cat. Sunny is actually Mom's cat, but she loooooves me, and we're trying to work something out so I can take her (boo $500 pet deposit). I want to get a dog, but there's no room for one in a one-bedroom apartment. I also have a Netherland dwarf rabbit at home who likes to beat up the cats if they try to mess with him.
9. List the 3-5 biggest things going on in your life:
1) Unemployment, 2) job search, 3) relationship... that's it. I would love to travel, but I have no money. I might go back to school within the next few years, but I have to figure out exactly what I want to do.
10. Parents:
Mom and Dad. We have a pretty good relationship, even though we do clash on some major issues, most notably politics. Mom is 55. She was a stay-at-home mom for most of my life and recently re-entered the work force as an aide to special education kids (usually for kids with autism). I always got along with her best; I would even exaggerate symptoms when I wasn't feeling well so I could hang out with her at home. She made me soup and we would watch movies together and talk. Dad is 49 and has a Master's degree in physics. He's smart, but he drives me insane sometimes. Our relationship has improved drastically over the last few years, probably due to his promotion and the physical distance between us.
11. Who are some of your closest friends:
Dan. He's my boyfriend and a very good friend. We do everything together: cook, dance, play, exercise. He's always been there for me when I needed it: he always supports me when I doubt myself, he makes me feel better when I'm feeling down, and he takes care of me when I'm sick.
Tanya. I met Tanya in an algebra I class when I was in eighth grade and she was in seventh. We reconnected once she got into high school and have been friends ever since. I luff her and I wish I could see her more often.
Spencer. Spencer was my sister's boyfriend when they were in either 8th or 9th grade. It didn't work out between them, but we remained friends. He's so fond of me that he "adopted" me as his sister while we were in high school, and we still refer to each other as sister and brother to this day. He's not always the best company (stupid, stupid jokes), but he genuinely cares about people. He even went out and bought soup then came over and made it for me when I was sick (I think I was actually hungover... oops) during one of my home visits.
